Table 2.04.9 -2: Criteria for Pre -Mine Soil Evaluating Soil Suitability (Revised with NRCS
2008)
PARAMETER - UNITS
THRESHOLD SUITABILITY LEVELS'
Note: This table represents the parameters for which the ore -mine soils were sampled and
tested for the 1999 Amendment Area. A similar table (but with changes) is included in Section
2.05.4 (2)(d) for sampling the post -mine replaced soils.
' The threshold levels are to be used as a guide in evaluating the suitability of a soil material for reclamation. An
evaluation should take into account the "total system ". Interactive parameters may either nullify or verify the
significance of a potential problem.
' The actual maximum acceptable salt level will depend on the plant species proposed in the revegetation plan and
the potential for upward salt movement.
(Revised October 09) 2.04.9 -23
Prime Farmland Soils
Prime Farmland Lift
B
Lift A
and Single -Lift Soils
PH
<6.1 - >8.4
<6.1 - >8.4
Conductivity (mmhos /cm)
4.0'
4.0'
Saturation percentage ( %)
>80%
>80%
<25%
<25%
Sodium adsorption ratio'
>4
>4
Exchangeable Sodium %
>15
Calcium carbonate percentage
15%
>40%
Selenium (ppm)
>.2 ppm
>1 ppm
Particle size
All soil textures except:
s, Is, sc, sic, c
Coarse fragments ( %)'
>15%
>35% one location;
>10% 3" diam +
( >25% average)
Note: This table represents the parameters for which the ore -mine soils were sampled and
tested for the 1999 Amendment Area.
