Page 32:
In my analysis of the production standards previously set for irrigated pasture and irrigated hay,
I stated that the standards were probably too high for some of the poor soils (map units 77 & 78)
that existed on the East side of the Mine prior to disturbance, especially when combined with
south facing slopes. I never questioned the standard as it relates to the better soils on the west
side of the mine, particularly the Bwx fine sandy loams, which are considered Prime Farmland.
And to be clear, over one -third of the new reference area for irrigated pasture contains Barx fine
sandy loam as a soil type.
Thank you for consideration of my cornnwnts as they relate to the Technical Revision No. 55,
Section 2.05.4(2)(e) Revegetation for the New Horizon #2 Mine of Western Fuels, Inc. My
purpose is to help clarify the agronomic issues related to reclamation of agricultural lands
affected by the New Horizon #2 mining activities. If you have any questions regarding my
comments please contact me.
Sincerely,
e'; 74,4 A
Jim Boyd, NRCS Resource Conservationist
