Jim manages permitting
Operations for the various CAM permits and projects, and Kent Crofts is a vegetation co nsuItant recently
contracted to conduct vegetation sampling and assessment for projects at the M Clane Canyon Mine,
Munger Mine, and the proposed Fruita Load out site. Discussion pertinent to each project is presented
separately below. Certain details were not s pecifically addressed during the meeting but were
confirmed in follow-up email c orrespondence and phone conversations. CAM will be su a permit revision application for a operational expansion to
incorporate a new coal waste pile, processing plant and ancillary facilities. The project will involve a
permit area expansion and an increase in disturbed area to the south Of the existing disturbance along
the East Salt Creep valley and adjacent uplands to the east. We agreed to the following approaches for
b se Iine ve getation assessment at th e rn eeti ng.
1) The primary vegetation type t0 be affected is the Greasewood community, on the unconsolidated
deposits along the East Salt Creep valley. An area that will encompass all planned disturbance within the
type will be sampled to meet sample adequacy requirements for vegetation cover and herbaceous
production (minimum of 15 sample observations for each parameter, if statistical adequacy is met with
fewer Observations). Cover data will be collected by a point frame method, with a total Of 100 points
collected along each randomly located SO mtrtranset tape. Herbaceous production data will be
collected by clipping quadrat sub - samples along each transet, bagging and Oven drying pursuant to
Rule 4.15.11(l) (b)(i ). A 2 meter wide woody plant density belt quadrat will b run along each cover
trance t. Applicable DRMS regulatory requirements and guideline recommendations for data collection,
analysis, presentation, mapping, and narrative description will be followed. Vegetation cover and
woody plant dens ity data will be reported by species; herbaceous production will be reported by life
form (annual forb, annual grass, perennial f rb, perennial- grass, etc., with any county listed noxious
Off of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver * Grand Junction * Durango Active and Inactive lines
