Diffuse knapweed plants were noted again in the traditional areas northwest of the road in the vicinity
of the Area W-5/C-1 boundary. Numerous areas were sprayed last year as noted in the 2008 report
although Area W-5 was not one of them. Please ensure that timely weed control measures are taken
before plants flower and set seeds in the late spring.
The enclosure of shrub transplants was traversed. Inspection of individual plants found only eight that
appeared live and showing signs of new growth for the season of at least three different varieties. A
total of 40-50 were viewed, indicating a substantial mortality of transplanted shrubs since planting in
2009. The operator may want to consider replacing/adding transplanted shrubs this growing season.
Overall, the site appeared in excellent condition for the spring season. Shrub transplants excluded,
revegetation efforts appear to be showing signs of long-term success after the last major seeding
done in 2007.
6
Above: Knapweed plant observed in Area W-5/C-1 vicinity
