percent of the total cover and 24.31 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Wyoming Big
Sagebrush, Douglas Rabbitbrush, and Rubber Rabbitbrush, were the other dominant plants on
this site, contributing 20.05, 13.28 and 10.27 percent, respectively, of the total relative cover on
this area.
When IME sampled this site in 2005 total plant cover was determined to equal 25.27 percent.
The locations of the 15 cover transects sampled on this site are shown on Map 3, Tipple
Reference Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. The sample adequacy calculations in
Table 2, Kerr Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of vegetation
transects required to characterize the total plant cover on this site at the 90 percent statistical
confidence interval was 11.6 transects.
Production. The results obtained from the sampling of the 30 production transects on Tipple
Reference Area are presented in Table 9, Tipple Reference Area - Production. Total herbaceous
forage production on this location averaged 4.64 g/l /4m2. Perennial grasses averaged 3.26
g/1/4m2 and contributed 70.26 percent of the total herbaceous forage and perennial forbs,
contributed an average of 1.38 g/1/4m2 or 29.74 percent of the forage produced on this site. No
annuals or noxious weeds were encountered in the productions sampling of this site.
When IMF, sampled this site in 2005, they reported that total herbaceous forage production
averaged 3.78 g/1/4m2 or 134.7 pounds of air-dry forage per acre. Perennial grasses contributed
2.90 g/l /4m2 or 76.72 percent of the total forage production and perennial forbs contributed 0.01
g/1/4m2 or 23.28 percent of the total forage production
The locations of the 30 production transects sampled on this area are shown on Map 3, Tipple
Reference Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. Examination of Table 2, Kerr Mine
Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals that sample adequacy at the 90 percent confidence
interval was equal to 11.6 transects.
TIPPLE RECLAMATION
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 20 plant cover transects on this site
are presented in Table 10, Tipple Reclamation - Plant Cover. Total plant cover on this site
averaged 32.85 percent and litter averaged 25.45 percent (Table 10, Tipple Reclamation - Plant
Cover).
Seeded cool season perennial grasses were the most dominant plant life form encountered in the
vegetation sampling of this site and contributed a total of 16.10 percent of the total cover and
49.02 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Seeded and invading shrubs and subshrubs
were the second most dominant plant life form on this site contributing 9.75 percent of the total
cover or 29.68 percent of the total relative cover on this reference area Perennial forbs were the
third most dominant plant life form and contributed 5.90 percent of the total plant cover or 17.95
percent of the total relative cover on this site. Biennials were the least dominant plant life form
encountered in the sampling of this site and contributed 1.10 percent of the total plant cover or
10
