Type of Undertaking: The undertaking encompasses the proposed drilling of methane drainage wells (MDW) <br />on constructed earthen pads, the construction of new access roads associated with the drill pads, and the <br />upgrading and maintenance of existing access roads, all of which will take place on lands managed by the USDA <br />Forest Service, Gunnison National Forest. The MDWs will connect with and serve to ventilate the underlying <br />tunnel network associated with E Seam coal reserves. Passive and/or active degassing equipment will be set up <br />at the wells. The wells will be operated and maintained for the duration of mining activities or approximately <br />12 years. During the project, interim reclaiming of mud pits as well as seeding and mulching of outslopes and <br />cut-slopes will be carried out. Upon completion of the project, the drill holes will be plugged, the pads reclaimed, <br />and new access roads will be decommissioned.
