from the proposed roads and drill sites.
During the winters of 2008, 2009 and 2010, winter predator prey surveys were conducted
in the E-Seam mine plan and surrounding areas. These surveys included the area where
the proposed roads and wells will be located.
PROJECT AREA
The four E3 panel drill sites will be located immediately adjacent to the existing
reclaimed road. Site E3-71 will be located on a former drill site area. The roadside sites
for E3-75, 76 & 78 will be located in the aspen and Gambel oak-mountain shrub
vegetation type. The E4-76 pad and pads for the 81, 82 & 83 sites will all be located in
Gambel oak-mountain shrub vegetation. The access road from existing road corridor to
the pad where wells E4-81, 82 & 83 are located traverses a slope that is dominated by
Gambel oak-mountain shrub with some pockets of aspen. Much of the aspen in these
pockets are dead or dying, presumably as a result of Sudden Aspen Decline (SAD).
The primary access road along Deep Creek from the Deep Creek crossing to where the
existing reclaimed road starts follows an existing road corridor through spruce-fir along
the stream. This road will be reconditioned and no additional spruce-fir habitat will be
disturbed.
FINDINGS
Threatened & Endangered Species
There are no federally or state listed species known to occur in the area as shown in Table
1. Table 1 displays current information on habitat and potential T&E species presence
within the project area.
Table 1
FEDERAL AND STATE
THREATENED, ENDANGERED AND CANDIDATE SPECIES
Species Status Habitat Present Species Present
T & E Species
Canada lynx FT, SE Yes-very limited None known
Wolverine SE No No
Bald eagle ST No No
Colorado pikeminnow FE, ST No No
Humpback chub FE, ST No No
Razorback sucker FE, SE No No
Bonytail FE, SE No No
Uncompahgre fritillary
butterfly FE No No
Uinta Basin Hookless
Cactus FT No No
