Colorado Stone Quarries, Inc., Yule Marble Quarry Tennit No. M-1999-058) (CHS #57066)
Dear Mr. Means:
Thank you for your correspondence dated May 4, 2010 (received by our office on May 5, 2010)
regarding the subject project.
It appears from the documentation provided that portions of this project area may fall on land
managed by the White River National Forest. In the event there is Federal agency involvement
(such as permitting or oversight), please note that it is the responsibility of the Federal agency to
meet the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act as set forth in 36
CFR 800 ("Protection of Historic Properties"). This includes the identification of any historic
properties (i.e. cultural resources which are eligible to be listed in the National Register of Historic
Places) within the area of potential effects and determining whether the undertaking will have an
effect upon such properties. The State Historic Preservation Office, Native American tribes,
representatives of local governments, and applicants for Federal permits, licenses or ocher approval
are entitled to consultative roles in this process.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory database indicates that at least one cultural
resource inventory has been conducted near the proposed millsite and At least two historic properties
are located therein. Site SGN270, the Marble Mill Site, is Listed on the National Register of Historic
Places (NRHP). Site 5W1770, the Treasure Mountain Railroad has been determined to need additional
data to assess its eligibility for the NRHP.
