.,.
MINED LAND RECLAMATION BOARD 110(2) ANNUAL REPORT
For Season 2009
GLACIER PEAK MINING
PERMIT NO. M-2003-030
Draft Prepared: 10 March 2010
Submitted: 11 May 2010
Summary:
Glacier Peak Mining LLC operated mechanized equipment on the Smoky Hawk and Elk Horn
mining claims from 11 June through 31 July in Teller County, Colorado, to produce amazonite,
smoky quartz, fluorite, goethite, and other crystallized mineral specimens. The equipment was idle
13 of those 51 days for maintenance, use at other sites, or for Sunday. A John Deere 992 and 690
track hoe and small bulldozer were used along with an appropriate air compressor for chipping
hammers and a water buffalo. A drill and blasting agent was used during 6 days. Two powder
magazines were temporarily located on site. Blasting operations were conducted exclusively at Site
B on the Smoky Hawk. Follow-on mineral removal, prospecting, reclamation, and claim upkeep
continued on all Glacier Peak claims through 26 Sep 2009. Of note, active claim jumping is
occurring. Unauthorized persons removed significant quantities of valuable crystallized specimens
from Site B during late July. The county sheriff was notified.
Map Depicting Operations:
Attached is a map showing the five claims covered under this permit. The fifteen proposed and
active excavation sites covered by this permit are shown by the letters A through Q and are
indicated with rectangular boxes. An orange area within a rectangular box indicates an open
excavation where work will resume this season (2009). Presently, there is one open excavation, Site
B, on the Smoky Hawk. A blue shaded box indicates a reclaimed area of one year or with less than
80 percent growth. A green shaded box shows areas that have been mined, reclaimed, and have 80
percent or better growth.
Current Disturbances (2009 ):
During 2009, Site B was re-opened and extended uphill and to the southwest for an additional 3,000
square feet (0.07 acre) new disturbance for a total combined disturbance of 1.03 acre. In 2007, 0.11
acre at Site B was previously reclaimed. Additional disturbances include 0.20 acre at the top of Site
A, as a result of piling overburden on this site. The topsoil underneath is not redisturbed. The
excavation at Site B was deepened by drilling and blasting. The topsoil piles above Site B were
reseeded. The excavation was terraced, partially filled, bermed, fenced, and made safe for winter.
Work will resume here during 2010. Additionally, approximately 1,000 square feet (0.02 acre) was
disturbed below the camp site on Site C. Total disturbance not including access roads is 1.25 acre.
