The second reason for the
inspection was to check on what was being done in association with the idling of the mines, and
to ensure that the Plan of Operations for the mines are being followed.
Summary
On April 20th, 2010, I inspected the Sunday Mines Complex with Ivan Messenger, DPLO
biologist, and Christie Woodward, Denison's Environmental Engineer.. Christie met us at the
Dolores Public Lands Office at 11 am and we drove out to the site. We arrived on site and
visited the drill pads of each of the mines in the Sunday Mines Complex. Presently, the Sunday,
Carnation and St. Jude mines are covered under plan of Operations COC-53227. Topaz and
West Sunday are covered under Plan of Operations COC-52049. Only a skeleton crew was
present at the site. They were securing the mine site for the planned hiatus. This involved
removing certain equipment from underground and gobbing-in the mine portals with muck. This
will allow Denison to prevent unauthorized entry to the idled mines and to shut off the
ventilation while nobody is there.
Overall, the site looked good and was fairly clean. No major problem:, were observed during the
inspection, only some minor housekeeping issues, including some scrap that needs to be cleaned
up, and a compressor with a recently punctured oil pan that resulted in a small spill. I did not
observe any seeps at the toe of any of the dumps. One of the recently developed ventilation
shafts was also inspected. Photographs of each mine portal area and the vent are included
below.
On the way back from the mines we stopped at Denison's offices in Egnar and spoke with Jim
Fisher, Mine Superintendant, and Terry MacKinnon, H&S Director. Jim invited me to stop by
any time if I needed to know anything about the mine. We also discussed security at the site,
while the mines are idle. He said that there have been problems with attempted unauthorized
.. -'~F-1 ;'? 7 FS--6200-12a
