Revegetation
Observation of the vegetation throughout the bond release blocks found that the vegetation was only
beginning to green up and many of the species were still dormant. Cheatgrass was emerging
throughout the reclaimed parcels. While Cheatgrass is present throughout the site, generally it has
not become troublesome, or excluded the establishment of other species. No significant bare areas
or rills or gullies were observed during the inspection.
Reclamation Success
It appears that the required amount of spoil cover is being placed in B Pit (Area 32R). The following
photograph shows six feet of spoil cover(the amount required by the Keenesburg Mine permit) being
placed over the regraded ash. Inspectors were able to compare the depth of spoil to measurement
posts placed at several locations in the pit.
Six feet of Spoil Cover over Regraded Ash
(Photo taken on west side of 8 Pit, approximately 60 feet south of survey stake 3-W 4812.94)
General reclamation appeared to be successful as no rills or gullies were observed and no sediment
transport was observed from the reclamation sites. This would have been obvious given the amount
of rain in the hours preceding the inspection.
