Fall 2009 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
of the south abutment of Monument Dam (Map D-3). At this location, it appears that there is
some additional movement occurring in the landslide as evidence by the linear feature that
extends southward from the borrow area toward the pre-existing head scarp. This feature, which
also contains two arcuate and linear intersecting traces, is in line with, and on the same trend as,
the shear zone mapped by Dunrud in 2005 (see Traverse Q-Q', pages 36-39 of the 2005
subsidence report) and shown on Maps 3 and 4 of this report. MCC personnel have conducted
earthwork activities in the area since the time of the photograph (Map D-3) to install a french
drain to remove water from the upper end of the slide area southeast of the borrow site.
As of the time of the 2009 aerial photograph (Map D-3), mining of the first E-seam panel (Panel
E1) was approximately 40 percent complete with mining progressing from southeast to
northwest.
•
831-032.791
April 2010
Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
Page 14
