III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection flown by Harry Ranney of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety(Division). Oblique aerial photographs were taken on April 27, 2010 and reviewed in the
office by Rob Zuber of the Division on April 29, 2010. Photos taken are provided at the end of the
report. Some problems were identified in the photographs.
Hydrologic Balance
Although the aerial photographs taken during this inspection focused on the areas near pits, some
images of reclaimed and undisturbed areas were captured. These images revealed no signs of water
erosion in the reclaimed and undisturbed areas. Standing water was visible in several ponds within
the interior of the permit area, but no photographs were taken of the sediment ponds along the permit
perimeter.
Slides and Damage
Cracks due to slumps where visible in three areas: the East A Pit, the D/E Pit, and the area southeast
of the D/E Pit. This latter area is included in the SL-11 bond release application and extends into a
previously released area.
General Mine Plan Compliance
Trapper Mine continues to work in the F-pit and the Z-pit. Currently, one dragline is working in the F-
pit while another dragline sits idle. One dragline is working in Z Pit. In general, the mine appears to
be operating as permitted.
