Environmental Protection Plan, Schwartzwalder Mine 8-1
8. GROUNDWATER INFORMATION
(a) Inventory of Water Courses, Wells, Springs, Reservoirs, and Ditches
The locations of all tributary water courses, wells, springs, stock water ponds, reservoirs, and ditches
located on mine property or within two miles of the Schwartzwalder Mine are shown in Plate 1 and
summarized in Table 8-1 and Table 8-2. The two-mile distance is drawn from the perimeter of the mine
facilities (waste rock piles, sealed vent shaft, portal, and the downstream property boundary. The distances
in Table 8-2 are measured from the sealed mine portal at the Steve Level.
Wells drilled in Colorado are registered with the Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR), and are a
matter of public record. DWR records list 188 unique wells within two miles of the project boundary,
thirteen of which are owned by Cotter Corporation (Section 8(a)(iii)). The nearest non-Cotter well is
located 0.70 miles (3,700 ft) from the mine portal, and 84% are located more than one mile from the mine
portal (Table 8-2).
