JVVVVJMCS <br />10/94 <br />The Bowbac series consists of moderately deep, well drained soils formed in <br />alluvium, eolian deposits or residuum derived primarily frorn argillacecus sandstone. <br />They occupy dissected fan remnants, fan piedmonts, hillslopes, pediments, ridges <br />and buttes. Slopes are 0 to 15 percent and both simple and complex. The mean <br />annual precipitation is about 13 inches, and the mean annual temperature is about <br />46 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine - loamy, Mixed, mesic Ustic Haplargids <br />TYPICAL PEDON. Bowbac sandy loam -on a northeast facing slope of 1 percent <br />under native vegetation. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise stated.) <br />A--0 to 3 inches; brown (10YR 513) sandy loam, dark brown (1 OYR 313) moist; <br />weak fine and very fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky nonplastic; <br />many fine and very fine roots, neutral (pH X6.8); abrupt wavy boundary, (2 to 7 <br />Inches thick) <br />Bt1 - -3 to 25 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 514) sandy clay loam, brown (10YR <br />413) moist; moderate coarse and medium prismatic structure parting to moderate <br />rnedium and coarse angular blocky; hard, friable, slightly sticky and plastic; common <br />fine and very foe, few medium and coarse roots; many distinct clay films can faces of <br />peels; neutral (pH 7.2); clear wavy boundary. (8 to 24 inches thick) <br />Bt2 - -25 to 31 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5f4) sandy clay loam, dark yellowish <br />brown (10YR 414) moist; moderate medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; <br />slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few medium fine and very fine <br />roots; common distinct clay films on faces of peels; mildly alkaline (pH 7.5 ); clear <br />wavy boundary.
