Actions taken by the Council on Environmental Quality state that, <br />"Federal agencies should attempt to determine the existence of prime <br />and unique farmlands in the area of impact analysed in env ronnentarl <br />impact statements." As a result of this action roost federal agencies <br />new require an analysis of the impact of their actions can agricultural <br />land. The important Farmland Inventory is the means of identifying <br />and locating prime and unique farmland which would be impacted by <br />these actions. <br />Other applications of the Important Farmland Inventory include the use <br />by companies in iorating industrial sites in areas which would have <br />the least iinpact on agricultural land. It is used by mining companies <br />in complying with mining regulations which require identification and <br />reclamation of prime and unique farmlands. it can be used by utility <br />companies when locating corridors for utility lines. <br />Most of the Important Farmland ',taps in Colorado identify lands whic''n <br />would become prime if irrigated with an adequate supply of water. <br />This info nmition will be useful in locating the best lands for <br />irrigation as new water projects are proposed or in relocating <br />existing irrigation systems. <br />Sheldon G.
