V 07.1Cl C
Supplemental Soil Survey Report. GarveylBurbrldge Properties for New Horizon Mire,
Nucla, Colorado. James R. latrine, 1996.
This report supplements the 1988 report prepared by Jim Nyenhuis for Peabody Gael. It provider, a more
detailed survey of the Garvey,'Burbridge property (henceforth referred to as the survey). Priorities were to
examine and sample a parcel of lead in "he northwest corner of the surrey delineated as map unit 700. Secondly,
additional sample sites, throughout the surrey area, were examined for salvage material depths. All sample sites
were excavated with a backhoe, giving the examiner a clear view of the soil profiles to a depth of bre-lrock.
Results indicate that the soil in reap :snit 70B is not Barx as previously reposed. Eigl~ #sample sites in this
map unit indicate gnat the soil is Progresso which is not suitable for prime farmland consideration nor is in the list of
prime farmland soils for Colorado. Rernoial from prime farmland consideration are based on Chapter 622.03
Prime Farmland So ils and Exhibit 622 -1 Final Pule, Prime and Unique Farmlands, National Soil Survey Handbook,
1993 Edition (appendix 1). In addition, Colorado has four additional criteria soy prime farmland consideration
defined in Colorado Important Farmland Inventory ( appendix 2). The primary factor excluding this soil from prime
farmland consideration are pH greater than 7.4 (Table 4 column t) in all sampled surface and subsoil horizons
with a depth to bedrock between 24 and 40 inches (Coloram Important Farmland Inventory Rage ?, Nurnter4.).
This map unit was changed from 70B to 3001 -A a rnonotaxa of Progresso soil with an inclusion of Band sail
(Table 1).
Additional sample sites for salvage material depths resulted in a more detailed survey trap. Map units
were refined based on original map unit numbers for composition, percentages, and inclusions to more accurately
reflect this survey, The results are in table 1.
The additional sample sites also yielded more accurate lift depths for topsoil and subsoil. The resk,!ts a -e
summarized in Table 2.
area. Taba'e 3 is a representative pedon for Progresso soil, sample site - 2, within the questioned nrirne farmland
Table 4 is a summarization of lab results for sample sites 1 -0, and 8.
Appendix 1 is Chapter 622.03 Prime Farmland Soils and Exhibit 622 -1 Final Rule, Prime and Unique
Farmlands, National Soil Survey Handbook, 1993 Edition,
Appendix 2 is Colorado Important Farmland Inventory.
Appendix 3 is Soil Map of the GarveyiBurbridge Properties
