will be on 25 ft centers. This background survey will establish the current average surface
radioactivity of the area.
As part of the reclamation of the temporary ore stockpile and loading area, Nuvemco will over -
excavate the surface 6 to 18 inches to remove any anomalous and residual radioactive materials,
placing the removed material back into the mine. After the area is backfilled and re- graded to
approximate the contours shown on Map F -1, the topsoil will be redistributed and another
comparable radiometric survey will be conducted to assure a return to background radioactivity
levels.
(6) Please clam the length of portal to be collapsed and methods of compaction to ensure
post reclamation stability. Please provide details and design criteria far the closure of all vent
and emergency escape ways.
As described above in 3.1.5 (2), the current reclamation plan does not require collapse of the
portal, but closure of the steel gate and backfilling and grading across the portal area.
The vent holes are shafts approximately 5 feet by 5 feet and are constructed (or to be constructed
in the case of potential new vents) with timbers at the top supporting locking steel grates
covering the entrance, which may or may not include an electric fan. The timbers will be
removed down to a depth of 4 feet below ground level, and then timbers will be placed adjacent
and completely across the entire shaft. The top of the vent shaft hole will then be backfilled to
the surface. Stockpiled soil will be placed above the reclaimed vent shaft and re- seeded. The
fence will be removed as soon as vegetation is reestablished and DRMS approves.
(7) Exhibit F does not show final grade and topography to address this subparagraph.
Map F -1, Legal Reclamation Plan has been modified to show where the buried portal area is and
final grade of reclaimed mine site.
Rule 3.1.9 (1), Topsoil.
(1) Please confirm that any topsoil left in place for more than 180 days or one growing season
will he protected from wind and water erosion with the temporary seed cover proposed in the
reclamation plan.
All topsoil stockpiles will be managed with Best Management Practices (BMP) including
seeding to minimize erosion. Small topsoil stockpiles will be secured near vent holes and
sedimentation traps, with larger previously described stockpiles near the waste rock dump and
ore loading areas.
(2) Please clarify what will be done with woody vegetation if disturbed.
Prior to the expansion of the waste rock dump, the vegetation will be stripped and the topsoil
removed and stockpiled as shown on Maps C -5 and C -6. Downed trees will be placed in a
E:j
