The Scott Expansion to the Chambers Pit in Garfield County was initially
permitted with DRMS as an amendment to this permit in 2004. Since that time, we have had to
make reductions in the mining area and provide additional reclamation commitments to Garfield
County to get their Land Use Change permit approved for the site. This was completed on March
15 of 2010. This technical revision deals exclusively with changes to the Scott Expansion Area of
the Chambers Pit which were required by Garfield County. For the purpose of the Garfield
County permit, the Scott Expansion Area is referred to as the Scott Pit.
The total permit area for the Scott Expansion Chambers Pit will not change as part of this technical
revision, nor will the post mine land use. There is considerably less disturbed area. The changes
(basically a smaller mining plan with additional reclamation commitments) that will take place are:
1. The removal of the original Mining Area 2 from the mine plan. No mining will take place
between the oxbow and the river over the life of the mine. Original Mining Areas 1 and 3
will remain. As such, the names of the Mining Areas have changed.
¦ Old Mining Area 1 = Mining Area 1
¦ Old Mining Area 2 = No longer exists
¦ Old Mining Area 3 = Mining Area 2
¦ Please take note of this change, as it carries through all attached documents.
2. The size of Mining Areas 1 and 2 has been reduced.
3. Due to the presence of an eagle nest, activity in Mining Areas 1 and 2 will be restricted
according to the approved Eagle Management Plan, which is included.
4. Wetland disturbance has been greatly lessened in the new mining plan.
