Also observed in the area were the noxious weeds houndstongue <br />(Cynoglossum officinale) and bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare). <br />• <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 86.9 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total <br />average cover for first hits was 35.4 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 0.7, 8.9, 3.4 and 0.1 percent respectively. Average species density was 34.0 species <br />per 100sq. m. <br />MOUNTAIN BRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA <br />(Photographs 25-28) <br />Cover <br />(Table 4) <br />Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Mountain Brush Reference Area, <br />comprising 73.5 percent of total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, Gambel's oak (Quercus <br />gambelii) comprised 42.1 percent, mountain snowberry comprised 18.0 percent, chokecherry <br />(Padus virginiana ssp. melanocarpa) comprised 5.8 percent and Saskatoon serviceberry <br />(Amelanchier alnifolia) comprised 5.7 percent. Also observed in the area was the noxious weed <br />• houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale). <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 71.2 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total <br />average cover for first hits was 18.9 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock <br />averaged 1.4, 16.7, 10.5 and 0.2 percent, respectively. Average species density was 32.3 <br />species per 100sq, m. <br />SAGEBRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA <br />(Photographs 21-24) <br />Cover <br />(Table 5) <br />Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Sagebrush Reference Area, <br />comprising 63.0 percent of total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, big sagebrush (Seriphidium <br />tridentatum) comprised 35.9 percent and mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius) <br />comprised 20.4 percent.
