• studies (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table 9 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes used
in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of representative
locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2009, as well as photographs of Mountain Brush
and Sagebrush/Snowbery Reference areas, are included in Appendix 4. Graphs of vegetation
and climate data are presented in Figures 1 through 9 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute first hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
Phase 2 (11) Bond Release Area
(Photographs 1 through 30)
COVER
(Table 1)
• Calculation of 90 percent of the cover performance standard appropriate for 2009 sampling is
demonstrated below.
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable herbaceous cover* = 15.0 x 2 = 30.0
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable herbaceous cover* = 41.0 x 2 = 82.0
90 percent of the Cover Standard = 0.90 [0.83(30.0) + 0.17(82.0)] = 35.0%
* Herbaceous cover adjusted by subtracting noxious weeds and annual/biennial plant cover in excess of 10% of the
remainder.
Introduced perennial cool season grasses, introduced perennial forbs and native perennial cool
season grasses were the predominant lifeforms observed in the Phase II Bond Release Area,
contributing 16.4, 10.5 and 7.7 percent first-hit vegetation cover respectively. Introduced annual
and biennial (orbs, native perennial forbs, native annual and biennial forbs, native shrubs and
introduced annual grasses contributed 4.4, 1.8, 1.5, 1.0 and 0.7 percent cover, respectively.
Introduced perennial cool season grass cover was composed mostly of intermediate wheatgrass
(Thinopyrum intermediam), smooth brome (Bromus inermis) and orchard grass (Dactylis
glomerata). Introduced perennial forb cover total was composed mostly of alfalfa (Medicago
sativa). Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed of western
0 9
