Peabody
Twentymile Coal
29515 Routt County Road 27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
FWCEiVED
Mr. Jason Musick, Environmental Protection Specialist March 30, 2010
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety MAR 3 1Z010
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203 DWWGn of Reclamatimtt,
(303) 866-3567 X8134 Ukft and Safety
RE: Twentymile Coal Company - Foidel Creek Mine (Permit No. C-82-056), Technical
Revision (TR10-72) for Coal Refuse Disposal Area Drainage Modification
Dear Mr. Musick:
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) requests CDRMS approval of a Technical Revision to our existing
approved Permit for modification of the under-drain alignment for the approved Coal Refuse Disposal
Area (CRDA) Expansion (Approved under TR09-67, 11/13/09). This minor design modification shifts
the discharge point for the under-drain from Sedimentation Pond D to the nearby Area 1 Pit, allowing
for use of any drainage in the mine water system, and providing better control of the water relative to
mixing and water quality.
The proposed CRDA Drainage Modification shifts the north end of the under-drain approximately 120
feet to the east. Other than this shift in alignment, the design of the under-drain and CRDA expansion
do not change, and the construction and stability of the CRDA expansion (as addressed by TR09-67)
are not affected. TCC has completed initial foundation preparation activities for the CRDA expansion,
including construction of the initial segments of the phased surface diversion ditches, and soil and
cover material recovery and stockpiling, and is currently proceeding with under-drain construction.
This submittal includes the revised text and maps necessary to identify, describe, and show the
proposed minor drainage design modification. Revised PAP materials are identified by the attached
Summary of Revisions/Additions.
As we are currently proceeding with under-drain construction, we would appreciate your
consideration, cooperation, and assistance in facilitating timely review and approval of this revision
application. After you have opportunity to review the accompanying information, please feel free to
contact me with any questions or to discuss submittal materials or related matters.
Best regards,
Twent e Co Company
Jerry 7ntal on
Envir Man ager
cc: Mike Berdine/TCC
Joe Shoemaker/TCC
