Design and Construction Notes:
This road has been designed to meet the applicable portions of Colorado DBMS Rule 4.03.1 for Haul Roads. It is specifically
designed to meet the applicable regulations as well as Rio Tinto internal road design guidelines while minimizing additional
disturbed area and preventing environmental damage. This design specifically covers those portions of the road which are
"Out of PiF and defined by the pit boundary shown by the legend. For those portions of the roadway within the pit area,
normal haul road construction practices apply. Other design requirements are shown below:
1. The field engineer shall have the discretion to move the road centerline horizontally a distance of up to 200 feet in any direction
as necessary to meet field conditions as long as the slopes and widths are maintained.
2. Maximum road grade is less than 10% as shown on the profile.
3. Cross fall slopes between centerline and road shoulders shall be between 1 and 2 percent as directed by the field engineer.
4. Design width shall be as shown on the cross - section.
5• Upon completion, the entire running surface of the road shall be surfaced with approximately 1 to 1.5 inches of rock or crushed gravel for traction. Additional
crushed gravel surfacing shall be reapplied as necessary throughout the life of the roadway.
6. A 6 foot high berm shall be used at all locations where the roadway is elevated.
7. Roadway signage shall be added as appropriate.
8_ Reflectors and Guideposts shall be installed as appropriate per Rio Tinto road standards.
9. Cut slopes shall be 0.5H :1 V or less when completed incompetent rock. Cut slopes in unconsolidated materials shall be laid snack at 1.5H :1 V
or less as directed by the field engineer.
10. Requirements for fill placement shall be as specifically described in Rule 4.03.1 Haul Roads (3) (e) "Road embankments ". Key elements of these requirements
are summarized below.
All vegetation material and topsoil shall be removed from the embankment foundation during construction. The existing ground shall be plowed, stepped, or
keyed in as required by this regulation. The material for embankments shall be reasonably free of organic material, coal, frozen materials, wet or peat material,
natural soils containing organic matter, or any other material considered unsuitable for use. Material containing by volume less than 25 percent of rock larger
than 6 inches in greatest dimension shall be spread in successive uniform layers not exceeding 12 inches in thickness before compaction. Where the material
for an embankment consists of large -size rock, broken stone, or fragmented material that makes placing it in 12 inch layers impossible, the embankment shall be
constructed in uniform layers not exceeding in thickness the approximate average size of the rock used. Each layer of the embankment shall be completed,
leveled, and compacted before the succeeding layer is pplaced. Embankment layers shall be compacted as necessary to ensure that the embankment Is
adequate to support the anticipated use. Material shall be placed in an embankment only when its moisture content Is within acceptable levels to achieve design
compaction. Embankment slopes shall not be steeper than 2H :1 V, except where the embankment material is a minimum 85 percent rock. In this case, slopes
shall not be steeper than 1.35H :1 V.
11, Drainage from haul road shall be directed to the pit(s) wherever possible.
12. A ditch shall be installed at toe of all cut slopes.
13. If needed, temporary erosion control measures shall be implemented during construction to minimize sedimentation and erosion until permanent control measures
can be established. The field engineer shall determine the need for control measures during construction. Such temporary and permanent control measures
would include silt fences, straw bales, straw wattles, rock check dams, or other measures such as downstream sediment ponds.
