GEOLOGIC DATA FOR COLLOM CROSS SECTIONS
• This volume presents drill hole information used to prepare the cross - sections located on Map
11 B of the Collom Permit Revision. The cross - sections are shown on Figure 2.04.6 -5 (3
sheets) of the permit revision.
INTRODUCTION
The drill hole data base used to prepare the computer generated cross sections contains
lithologic and other data collected from the holes drilled in the Collom area from the late
1960's through 2006. The drill data can be separated into two separate categories — pre -2004
and 2004 through 2006.
The pre -2004 Collom data was obtained from drill hole files drilled from the late 1960's
through 1996 in the Collom area. This data was obtained from a review of all Colowyo drill
data, which occurred in the late 1990's, to aid in a coal seam correlation project to determine
subsurface conditions for the Colowyo property. The work involved obtaining coal depth,
thickness, hole location and collar elevation for all holes in the Colowyo drill hole files at that
time. No lithologic data was collected since many of the holes only had geophysical logs. All
this data was input to a computer data base. Therefore, all lithogic printouts obtained from
this time period contain only identified coal seams (e.g., Al, D2, F6), with the other material
defined as 'undifferentiated stone'. Some of the lithologies also identify some of the thicker
sandstones as 'sandstone'.
• The 2004 to 2006 drill hole work input all data from the drill holes. Thus the following
information contains lithologic data from ground surface to total depth. This data along with
geophysical data is presented on strip logs for all Collom drill holes.
DRILL HOLE FILES
The following files are separated by cross - section identifiers, e.g., Cross - section A -A'. The
beginning of each section has a list of those holes included in that section. Each drill hole has
at least the lithologic log present.
If available, the hole completion report is presented first. This is followed by the computer
generated lithologic data printout. If the lithologic printout does not have complete lithology,
and the drill hole file had a lithology description, this was included as part of the drill hole
data. For all 2004 to 2006 drill holes, only the printout of all the lithology was included.
(The hand written notes were not included). A strip log was included that shows lithology
and geophysical logs (caliper, gamma, density, and resitivity).
All lithologic printouts have the pilot hole location, if more than one drill /core hole was
drilled at the location. This is also the case for the drill hole completion report.
The lithology summaries contain adjusted depths, seam, thickness, lithologic qualifiers,
lithology type, shade, and color. The adjusted depth is the depth as shown on the geophysical
log, not the drilling or core depth. For the column under seam, if there a letter and possibly a
number (e.g., E2), that identifies the coal seam. If it has an `S' in front of the letter, this
