S REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
No new seeding was conducted at Seneca II. No shrubs or trees were planted at Seneca II Mine in 2009.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Seneca II Mine permit area in 2009. Canada thistle was the
primary target species, with lesser activity directed towards areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. The weed
control areas will continue to be monitored in 2010 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment.
See the attached weed control daily log spreadsheet for more detailed description of the 2009 herbicide
application (actual log is on file at the mine site) and the 2009 Weed Control Areas map for locations of
spraying areas.
• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of 2009 by
ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2009 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be submitted as a separate
document.
9 Grazing
• Cattle (642 long yearlings) were moved on to the Seneca II reclaimed area July 18th, 2009. All cattle were
moved off the Seneca II Mine area September 12th, 2009. See attached 2009 Grazing Plan Map for pasture
locations.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 959 AUM's for 2009.
Assumptions: 9 longyearling = 0.8 AUM, requiring 648 pounds of forage per month. (One AUM require 8 10 pound
of forage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions.
Average production = 9, 972 lbs./acre (see 2007 and 2008 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 2293 acres (included Pre-Law area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
1,1721bs/acre (x) 2,213 acres = 2,593,6361bs. of total forage produced
810 lbs. of forage (x) 959 AUM's = 776,790 lbs. of forage required;
Therefore,
776,790 (/) 2,593,636 (x) 100 = 29.7% utilization of the total Seneca II reclaimed area
