. attached weed control daily log spreadsheet for more detailed information of the 2009 herbicide application.
Actual field logs are on file at the mine site.
• Grazing
Cattle (230 cow/calf pairs) were moved on to the Seneca II-W Reclaim for 33 days between August 311, and
October 3rd. This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 253 AUMs for 2009. See attached 2009 Grazmi g, Plan
Map.
Assumptions:
One (1) cow/calf pair = 1.0 AUM
One (1) AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
33 days (x) 230 cow/calf pairs = 7,590 animal days (/) 30 days = 253 animal months (x) 1.0 AUM/pair =
253 AUMs
1,454 lbs/acre (x) 685.2 acres = 996,281 lbs of forage available
810 lbs (x) 253 AUMs = 204,930 lbs of forage required
Therefore;
204,930 (/) 996,281 (x) 100 = 20.5 % utilization of the entire Seneca II-W Reclaim.
CHRONOLOGICAL HISTORY OF REVEGETATION
• Total areas revegetated prior to and in 2009 at the Seneca II-W Mine are shown on the attached 2009
Chronological Seeding map.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
SCC is required by Permit C-82-057 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage capacities. This
monitoring is conducted by physically surveying each pond each year. This schedule provides a sediment
yield history and gives advanced warning to operations personnel when sediment clean out work is needed.
Also, in accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond, at a minimum, quarterly each
year. During these inspections, any drastic change in sediment storage/sudden increase in a sediment delta at
the inlet of the pond would be detected and mitigation implemented, if necessary.
The results of the 2009 annual survey indicated that all ponds are within the minimum requirement for
storage and are shown on Table 09.6, Sediment Pond Capacities.
STOCK TANKS
No stock tanks were completed in 2009.
WILDLIFE MONITORING
SCC contracted Jones and Stokes to conduct wildlife surveys and monitoring at the Seneca II-W mine area.
The work included:
• 1. Monitoring of Columbian sharp-tailed grouse leks and checking for new ones (April 29, 2009)
2. Checking golden eagle nests for activity (April 29, 2009)
3. Checking sandhill crane activity )April 29, 2009)
