STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
COLORADO
D IV IS I ON OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
INTEROFFICE Governor
James Martin
MEMORANDUM Executive Director
TO: Kent Gorham
FROM: Jim Stark 11:??
SUBJECT: Northfield TR-0 1 Cost Estimate
DATE: 17 March 2010
Attached is the reclamation cost estimate for the Northfield Mine's Technical Revision
01 - change to the layout and design of the surface facilities. With this revision the entire
estimate has been updated with the most recent costs (updated in the fall of 2009). The
new liability for the Northfield Mine is $578,902.00. This new liability is $108,335.00
more than the previous estimated liability of $470,567.00 (calculated with the new
application).
Based on the material submitted with TR-01, several tasks have changed with the
calculation of this estimate. First, the surface facilities area has increased from the
original estimate. Additionally, the amount of cut and fill for the construction of the
facilities bench has increased, increasing the amount of material that must be moved
during the regrading operations. One item that was noted while calculating this estimate
is that Northfield is planning on using some of the development waste as fill for the
facilities areas (approximately 10,000 CY). These increases in area and volume led to
some of the cost increases.
Second, Northfield also changed some of the dimensions of the proposed facilities. The
office and bathhouse were combined into an office/bathhouse/warehouse, with the size
increased. Northfield has increased the total length of conveyor on the surface and the
length of power lines to the fan site has also increased. Northfield has also increased the
length of the four roads on site (the haul road, access road, road to the vent shafts and the
road to Pond 1). Additionally, Northfield has added an additional vent shaft at the vent
shaft bench south of CR79.
Third, Northfield changed their topsoil balance table, Table 2.05.4-1. This change
resulted in the addition of approximately 4,000 CY of topsoil that needs to be
redistributed.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
