alluvial aquifers. In intermittent streams such as Foidel and Middle Creeks, stream flows and ground water levels
in adjacent areas decline rapidly following spring runoff. Since the alluvial aquifers are in direct hydraulic
communication with the stream system, reductions in ground water levels and loss of base stream flows result in
concurrent depletion of the limited volume of ground water retained in alluvial aquifers.
Saturated Backlill
Recharge to backfilled areas at surface mines occurs through direct infiltration of rainfall and snowmelt. A detailed
discussion of recharge, flow and discharge in the backfilled areas adjacent to the Foidel Creek Mine is included in
Exhibit 35, Backfll Hydrologic Evaluation.
EMD (Panels 2 Right through 6 Right)(PR97-04)
A spring and seep survey was conducted during 1996 for the EMD. Table 9A, EMD Spring Locations, provides the
locations of each spring to the nearest quarter section. Tables 9B through 9m provide flow and water quality data for
each of the springs.
The flow data, except for Spring 586277, show discharges less than or equal to 0.0181 cfs (8.1 gpm). Maximum flow
from Spring 586277 was reported as 0.0392 cfs (18.6 gpm). Typically, the springs flow less than 0.011 cfs. Given the
limited flows from these springs, no further monitoring is proposed.
(2) Surface Water Information
(a) Surface water infonna[ion shall be provided, including the name of the watershed which will
receive water discharges from the permit area, the location of all surface water bodies such as streams. lakes, ponds.
and springs, the location of anv water discharge into anv surface body of water, and descriptions of surface draining
systems insufficient to identify. ui detail, the seasonal variations in water quantity and quality within the proposed
permit and adjacent area.
(b) Surface water information shall include:
(i) Minimum, maximum, and averaee Flows which identify critical low Flow and peak
discharge rates of streams sufficient to identify seasonal variations; and
(ii) Water quality data from surface waters in, discharging into, or which will receive
Flows from surface or ground water from affected areas within the proposed permit area, sufficient to identify seasonal
variations water quality satnpline and laboratory analysis will be conducted in accordance with 2.03.3 (4) and shall
include:
(A) Total dissolved solids or electrical conductivity corrected to 2~ centieradc
(specific conductance);
(B) Tolal suspended solids in milligrams per liter:
(C) Acidity;
(D) pH;
(f:) Ibtal and dissolved imn in milligrams per lifer:
(F) Toral numeattese in milligrmus per liter: and
(G) Such other infi~nnation as the Division. for good cause shown. determines is
APR 2 4 2000
PermitRenesvalNo.3 2.04-29 APPRUVED 4/1/99
