Southeast Sub-mains Extension, 3-Right Gateroad Alternate Location, and Northeast Sub-mains Reorientation
(MR99-162)
TCC extended the Southeast Sub-mains approximately 300 feet to the southeast to determine if the Wadge seam
parting was present in that area. Also, a 300 foot stub-in was driven off the extension to facilitate mining in this
area. The R2P2 has been modified to reflect this minor modification to the mine plan and is included in
Confidential Exhibit 9c.
The 3-Right Gateroad alternate location is shown as a hatched area immediately south of its present location on
Map 23. The alternate location was shown in the event that the extension mining demonstrated the parting doesn't
exist and that the panel layout could be modified. This option provided the opportunity to mine the 3-Right
Gateroad, as approved in PR-04, or mine the first 750 feet in its alternate location.
The Northeast Sub-main reorientation was done to improve mining efficiency for the sub-mains. The general
layout of the sub-mains is shown on Map 23. TCC retained the option of adding additional sumps, ventilation dog
legs, or make other minor adjustment to the area to be mined, so long as they are within the area defined (i.e.
shaded in) on Map 23. TCC installed a set of rock rooms to store rock generated from crossing the fault in the
Northeast Mains. The location of the rock rooms is shown on Figure 16J. The rock rooms are made up of entries
approximately 200 feet in length and cross-cuts of 150 feet. This results in mining an area approximately 0.2 acres
in size.
The fault that TCC crossed varied more than anticipated, requiring that an additional entry be driven off the north
corner of the northern rock rooms. The location of the additional entry is shown on Figure 16J. The additional
entry is approximately 180 feet long and 20 feet wide. The entry may be used for storing additional underground
development waste and as a sump. The affected area associated with the driveage is approximately 0.08 acres.
3-Right Gateroad Relocation and 2-Right Sump-In Addition (MR 99-163)
TCC relocated the 3-Right gateroad to the south by approximately 200 feet. The location of the gateroad is shown
on Map 23, Mine Plan. The relocation and driving of the gateroad does not have any surface impacts due to the
limited extraction associated with this driveage. The 2-Right Gateroad was sumped in approximately 700 feet to
allow for underground construction activities. Based upon the 700 feet length, 20-foot wide entries and 4 crosscuts,
approximately 1.2 acres was added to the affected acreage classification. TCC does not anticipate any surface
disturbance resulting from this activity due to the limited extraction.
Face Extension -Panels 2- & 3-Right, and Development of Gateroads 11-Right and 12-Right
TCC widened the face of Longwall Panels 2- and 3-Right to 1,000 feet from the existing 850-foot face. The face
extension allows for the more efficient mining of the remaining reserves in the EMD. The face extension resulted
in additional reserves being extracted from Federal Coal Lease COC-54608. The R2P2 plan reflects the increased
tonnage resulting from the extension. The extension results in undermining and subsiding more of Middle Creek.
The new panel layout results in the powerlines being located differently within the panels. The impacts to the creek
and powerlines are discussed in more detail in following paragraphs.
NORTHERN MINING DISTRICT
TCC mined the 11-and 12-Right Gateroads, in late 1999 and 2000. The locations of these gateroads are shown on
Map 23. Associated with mining these gateroads, TCC also drove the Northwest Mains approximately 225 feet to
the north of the 13-Right Gateroad. The entries from the east end of the 11-Right Gateroad were driven to connect
with the existing EMD Ventilation Fan. Finally, an additional set of the entries was driven from 11-Right Gateroad
1 to facilitate moving the longwall equipment from the 2-Right Panel to the 12-Right Panel. It should be noted that
the ventilation tie and additional set of entries are shown within a "blocked area". This also applies to the area
between the fault and the northwest mains, which has been blocked out to show that these mains may move within
TR08-64 2.05-16 06/17/08
