Given the installation of sedimentation control structures, the employment of such control devices pursuant to this application will result in the enhancement of aquatic biology both within the permit and adjacent areas. Implementation of the 30 milligrams per liter standard required by the current NPDES permit should result in no increase in total suspended solids to the stream. Additionally, further damage to aquatic biota in the North Fork of the Gunnison River will be avoided through the care in leaving a buffer zone of vegetation between the area to be used for surface support facilities and the river. Wildlife Protection Procedures. Although underground mining and its related surface disturbance are not expected to impact upon the wildlife in any significant manner in this area, several protection procedures will be initiated during mining to protect any wildlife that might be • found within the area adjacent to the surface support facilities. No surface blasting will be conducted as part of the operations. Electric transmission lines located within the permit area will be constructed in accordance with the standards required by Section 4.18. Construction of transmission and distribution lines to these standards will insure that the electrocution of large raptors will be avoided. Off-road vehicle use of the permit area will be kept to a minimum. Only authorized travel in the area will be permitted and no unauthorized vehicles will be allowed on the site. Human pets, such as dogs, will be kept under control on the permit area to decrease the disruption tc wildTife.
