(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M- 1977 -129
INSPECTION DATE: 02/18/2010
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The Pit 500 is located off of Highway 141 approximately 0.5 miles south of
Whitewater, Colorado. The Pit 500 is a multi phase operation that consists of two separate locations that are divided
by the Gunnison River. The purpose of the February 18, 2010 inspection was to assess the reclamation conducted
on the site located south of the Gunnison River to determine if a portion of the reclamation responsibility could be
transferred from Whitewater Building Materials to Mr. Brandon who owns a portion of the Pit 500. Mark Gardner
and Mr. and Mrs. Brandon accompanied the inspector during the inspection.
A portion of the reclamation cannot be transferred to another party through a modification of the permit. An
agreement can be made between the landowner and the operator but this agreement will not be considered by the
DRMS and ultimately Whitewater Building Materials is responsible for completion of the required reclamation.
The conditions observed on the portion inspected consisted of regraded slopes and evidence of reseeding. The
majority of the reclaimed slopes appeared to be no steeper than the required 3H:1V. Some reclaimed slopes
observed did have some minor sloughing that will need to be repaired in order to meet the slope requirements.
Pictures included at the end of this report show the conditions observed during the February 18, 2010 inspection.
No evidence of off -site damage was observed during the inspection.
No problems or possible violations were observed during the inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3 rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone
no. 970 - 241.2042.
I & E Contact Address
cc:
NAME:
Mr. Mark Gardner
❑
BLM
OPERATOR:
Whitewater Construction Materials
❑
FS
STREET:
P.O.
