2.2.5 EP047
EP047 is comprised of approximately 90 acres of
moderately sloping revegetation that has a
predominately north-easterly aspect. This unit was
seeded in 2007 and therefore, was undergoing its
second growing season in 2009. A total of 30 plant
taxa were observed in the unit (see Table AB-1).
Ground cover in EP047 consisted of 54.1% live
vegetation, 1.0% rock, 14.7% litter, and bare soil
exposure of 30.3%. Perennial cover across the unit
averaged 18.5% with annual and biennial cover
averaging 35.6% (see Table AB-2 and Chart AB-1).
Dominant taxa were Russian thistle (5a/so/a tragus),
cheatgrass, thickspike wheatgrass, Japanese brome,
and Western wheatgrass with 12.8%, 11.7%, 5.8%,
5.1%, and 4.8% average cover, respectively. Woody
plant density was determined from 20 belt transects.
Density (Table 3) totaled zero young and mature
stems per acre. With regard to diversity, EP047
exhibited three perennial grasses with between 3%
and 50% relative cover and relative forb cover of
35.9% (excluding noxious weeds).
R
? m
0 0
m
o e
0 -off
f..e,? These annual
and biennial forbs typically give way to perennial species as time progresses and so no remedial action is
necessary at this time. Noxious weeds appear to be well controlled in this unit. Annual bromes are
16.8% of the total plant cover. This population should be monitored to ensure that the populations are
not increasing. In one area (see map), the use of the herbicide Plateau may be necessary to reduce and
control the population of annual bromes. This area could also benefit from reseeding if perennial species
do not begin to establish. Excepting the area noted on the map, Unit EP047 looks like typical two-year
old revegetation and should be monitored again in 2011 (fourth growing season).
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, Inc.
