Pretest Borehole Abandonment Plan
Since the pretest boreholes were fractured using cement-based grout, they are
cement filled at the conclusion of testing. In addition, the hydraulic fractures
created in the test are also cement filled. Since the boreholes are above the
tunnel floor, they do not contact any running water in the mine. Because the
boreholes are near horizontal and short, they do not provide conduits between
any aquifer units not already connected by the presence of the mine workings
themselves. Since the pretest boreholes and the hydraulic fractures are already
filled with cement, they will be abandoned "as is" with no additional plugging
operation needed. Similarly, the pretest observation holes, because of their short
length (20-40 feet) and the fact that they are not fractured, will require no
reclamation and will be abandoned "as is."
