0 0
Additional Information Requested for Benson Brothers Red Shale Quarry Mining Permit
earlier prediction curves from data at another Benson Brothers quarry. I apologize to all for
this error and I certainly did not intend to mislead anyone and this is why I always include
my calculations so others can check them. Putting this in perspective, anyone who would
calculate or extrapolate the intensity of motion at the rock bluff located at least 340 feet
from operating equipment, based on a measurement of 0.08 in/s at 20 feet would find that
the intensity of motion is extremely low, and it would certainly be less than 0.01 in/s. As
explained in my earlier report, normal changes in weather conditions will create much
greater stresses to the rock mass than motions with these very low intensities. Freeze-thaw
forces will also have a much greater impact.
I have no comments about the measurements made by Mr. Lazear and his unsupported
extrapolations and theories.
In summary, I am confident that anyone doing similar measurements at the Red Shale quarry
with properly calibrated equipment will obtain measurements similar to those obtained by
the PreSeisTek study.
Respectfully submitted,

Gordon Revey
