Martin
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director/State Engineer
RECEIVED
?MAR 0 5 2010
Division of Kecia iviaatimi,
Mining and Safety
This letter is in response to your application of September 23, 2009 on behalf of Logan
Sand and Gravel (Applicant) requesting a substitute water supply plan (SWSP or plan) for a sand
and gravel pit owned and operated by Applicant in accordance with Section 37-90-137(11), C.R.S.
The Applicant shall be responsible for compliance with this plan. The required fee of $1,593 for
the substitute water, supply plan has been paid.
Plan Operations
This plan seeks to replace depletions resulting from the mining at the Reese-Logan Pit
("Gravel Pit")-WDID 6403009. The depletions that result from the existing wet-mining operation
include evaporation, dust control, and water lost in mined product. The mine is located in the
SE '/ of Section 26, Township 7 North, Range 53 West of the 6th P.M. Mining operations at the
Reese-Logan Pit began in 1996, resulting in a ground water pond. You have estimated the
exposed ground water surface area to be 3.7 acres. based on a 2009 aerial photo. The
proposed replacement source is excess recharge accretion credits from the North Sterling
Irrigation District ("NSID").
Depletions
For the September 2009 through December 2009 period, evaporation was based on an
exposed ground water surface area of 3.7 acres. The monthly evaporative losses are shown in
the attached Table 1. Operational losses for the September 2009 through December 2009
period only include 0.09 acre-feet per month used for dust control. For the September 2009
through December 2009 period, you have indicated the lagged operational and evaporation
losses total 4.44 acre-feet and the amount of leased replacement water from NSID totals 5.58
acre-feet for this same period.
Staa to E
Office of the ngineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.waterstate.co.us
