2.04.4(1) • (1) A description of the cultural and historic resources listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and significant known archaeological sites within all areas proposed or likely to be affected by surface activities is presented in Volume VI, Cultural Resources. Cultural resource field work was performed during the third and fourth weeks of September 1995. The cultural resource survey reports that one prehistoric site and two isolated finds were recorded but were evaluated as not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The town site of Bowie, site 5DT122, although heavily disturbed is a historic site. All that remains is the mine office, the Bowie house garage, and two mine garages. According to the Cultural Resources Inventory Report (page 23 - 24), the four remaining buildings are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, these four buildings should be preserved through methods that meet the Historic American Buildings Survey and /or the Historic American Engineering Record documentation standards. The King Mine site, associated with the town site of Bowie, site 5DT1053, has been heavily disturbed. The remaining buildings include a hoist house, power plant, mule barn, powder magazines and sales house. The power plant and hoist house are community landmarks. According to the Cultural Resources Inventory Report (page 22), the power plant and hoist house are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, these two buildings should be preserved through methods that meet the Historic American Buildings Survey and /or the Historic American Engineering Record documentation standards. By letter dated July 18, 1996, the SHPO recommended the home garage at 5DT122 and the other buildings at 5DT122 and at 5DT1053 be recorded to Historic American Buildings Survey /Historic American Engineering Record (HABS /HAER) Level II standards. The level II Documentation of Structures is presented in Volume VI, Cultural Resources. A file search, presented in Volume VI, was made through the Preservation Office of the Colorado Historical Society for the following described area: Township 13 South, Range 91 West, 6 th P.M., Sections: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 14, 15, 16. Based on the file survey, there are no cultural or historic resources listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places or significant known archaeological sites within the area to be affected by probable subsidence over the life of the mine. • PR -12 2.04-9- 02/10
