during the first season. After the first season, and depending on the size of the management unit
and availability of additional management units, grazing may be implemented. f rvesting will
• continue to be considered as a management option if grazing is not implemented h any given
year. Harvested hay will be removed from the fields as rapidly as hay quay. and weather
conditions permit.
5.0 Revegetation Methods - Dryland Pasture (DP)
The dryland pasture type will be established in areas which were previously sagebrush rangeland
on the 1987 Travessitta-Pinon soils and on 1999 soil map units 986, 98C, and 98H (see Map
2.04.9-1). It also may be established on former irrigated lands that do not have sufficient water
for future irrigation. <Alt Lough attempted in the: asf, irri"'ation W 11 n t be;.eMployed one°,drylarfd
Lpafl
FQ?
?- ck
Seed Mix #8 has been developed to provide a mix of species that are compatible with the adjacent
irrigated pasture type, has a high level of utility, and will provide long term protection of the V_?
resource.
c?L Vg's '
• The above varieties are preferred but do not constitute the only available adapted varieties. Seed
?
availability problems associated with the above recommended varieties will require that the next
r'
best adapted variety or native/common types be used. The alternate selections will-be made from` rr*
regional sources.
Species selection criteria centered on species that are drought tolerant, reasonably productive
under semiarid conditions, able to provide site stabilization, able to withstand grazing pressure,
and have utility for livestock and. wildlife. The seed variety and mixture is commonly"used in this
region and was reviewed by the local Soil Conservation Service.
All species are introduced, however these are the best available species for the postmine land use
andare necessary. and desirable to achieve the intended use.
PR-06 Oct 09 2.05.4(2)(e) - 24
