2.05.3
MR -108
 PPROVCD
?/( `fI a I
Five rock entries were driven in the B -East mains to cross the fault in the B-
Seam. The entries were be supported as necessary to assure safety of the
miners and to assure any debris within the fault plane is supported in place
and not allowed to cave or flow into the mine.
Mining advanced through the fault in the D -Seam and longwall panels WD1,
WD2 and WD3 were mined with no significant problems. Longwall mining
faces will be developed about 850 feet wide and will vary in length from 2800
to 6200 feet. Gates entries will typically be developed with three entries with
pillar spacing and size designed to provide maximum support for ventilation
and belt haulage. Bleeder entries will be developed with four or more
entries.
The new unit train loadout is located south of the UPRR mainline. The
Terror Creek Loadout and its associated activities are located north of the
UPRR mainline. Therefore, the Operator and the Terror Creek Loadout will
not have overlapping permit areas.
Mining is currently ongoing in the B -Seam. Panel B -8 is being mined.
Development for panels B -9 through B -11 is ongoing. Mining in the B -8
through B -11 panels has encountered higher than normal methane
concentrations. The Operator is having difficultly dealing with the methane in
the sealed areas and in the longwall gob areas. Beginning late in 2009,
nitrogen will be generated on the surface a piped down the Hubbard Creek
Shaft through the D -Seam dewatering pipeline. Nitrogen will be piped to and
injected into problem areas in order to dilute methane concentrations. The
nitrogen generator will run intermittently as required to supply necessary
nitrogen to the mine.
During 2009 the Operator is going to wash coal for West Elk Coal Company,
(WECC). WECC will haul raw E -Seam coal to BRL's lower stockpile area.
BRL will run West Elk's coal through the preparation plant. The resultant
coal mine waste will be hauled back to West Elk's coal mine waste pile.
Clean coal will be loaded out through BRL's unit train loadout. Projected
throughput is about 150,000 tons per month for an estimated three months
or more.
2.05-5- 08/09
