Dudash, Joe
From: Ward, Jason
Sent: Monday, June 09, 2008 5:06 PM
To: Dudash,Joe
Subject: RE: Bruce Park Dam
Joe - Thank you for your comments on the draft letter. I tend to agree in all aspects and will make a few revisions. I'm in
the field this week, but will make every attempt to get the revised letter to you by the end to the week.
Jason Ward
From: Dudash, Joe
Sent: Monday, June 09, 2008 4:08 PM
To: Ward, Jason
Subject: RE: Bruce Park Dam
We have reviewed your draft letter dated June 6, 2008. We appreciate your prompt response. The content of the letter is
what we expected. However, we do have one request for clarification. In the last sentence of the first page, your office
requests periodic measurement of the dam's pliezometers and survey monuments. The letter references your agency's
May 16, 2006 letter. The May 16, 2006 letter, in turn, references your agency's June 11, 2003 letter. Rather than
referencing previous letters, the Division requests that your agency include in your current letter some guidance, perhaps
with specifics, concerning a proposed dam monitoring program.
On page 3 of Exhibit 18, "Seismic Monitoring-Summary Statement", which was included in Bowie's response letter dated
May 12, 2008, the operator states that there will be an inspection of the dam if a threshold event is exceeded. No other
information is given as to the nature of the dam inspection. Also, It does not mention monitoring of the dam for baseline
data or if the threshold event is not exceeded. Since you inspect dams, it would be helpful if Bowie and the Division knew
what kind of data and at what frequency of collection would be appropriate. I think Bowie needs specific guidance in
establishing this monitoring program for the dam and it would save time if they knew upfront what was expected of them.
Does this sound possible or would you rather have Bowie propose the specifics?
From: Ward, Jason
Sent: Monday, June 09, 2008 9:35 AM
To: Dudash, Joe; Brown, Sandy
Subject: Bruce Park Dam
Joe and Sandy - Attached is a draft letter regarding comments from our office on the Bruce Park landslide monitoring
program presented by Bowie Resources for PR-10. If this meets your needs, I will finalize and send it. Please call with
any questions (970) 249-6622.
Thanks,
Jason Ward
<< File: 060608_ltr to_Dudash DRAFT.pdf >>
Jason P.
