<br />Bowie Resources, LLC, P.O. Box 483, Paonia, CO, 81428, has submitted a complete application
<br />for a permit revision to the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety for its approved Bowie No. 2
<br />Mine, mining permit No. C-1996-083. The proposed revision will amend the B-Seam mine plan.
<br />The approved mine plan has longwall panels oriented in an east west direction. The new mine plan
<br />rotates the panels 90 degrees to a north south direction. The mine plan change is necessary
<br />because of difficult mining conditions experienced while developing the 1 East Mains. The
<br />northern extension of the mine plan will move into a proposed Federal coal lease modification area.
<br />Panels are projected under Dove Gulch and Dove Cave. The extent of subsidence from the
<br />proposed panels comes within about one quarter mile of the Bruce Park Dam and about 750 feet of
<br />Terror Creek Reservoir. The mine plan does not project mining under Terror Creek to the west or
<br />Hubbard Creek to the east.
<br />The mine facilities are located north of Bowie Road near the town of Bowie, CO. A pump station,
<br />three sediment ponds, unit train loadout and future coal mine waste disposal site are located south
<br />of Bowie Road. The Fire Mountain Canal is located south of the mine facilities and north of the unit
<br />train loadout. The North Fork of the Gunnison River is located south of the mine permit boundary.
<br />The proposed mine permit area is located on the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute Bowie
<br />Quadrangle map within the following sections.
