The revision
was submitted by Bowie Resources, LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the
Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
In Technical Revision No. 51, Bowie Resources, LLC is proposing to allow approximately 1,800 cubic yards of
excess rock from the Bowie No. 2 Hubbard Creek vent shaft project to remain at the old Paonia Sewage Lagoons,
rather than transport it to the Bowie No. 1 Mine for permanent disposal, as is currently approved. The Town of
Paonia accepted the donated material so that the old sewage lagoons could be reclaimed. The USDA-Forest
Service is agreeable to issuing the town a Free-use permit for the use of the material.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles Northeast of Paonia, Colorado.
The permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, and 22, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
Portions of Sections 33 and 34, Township 12 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete.
At the time of publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at
the Paonia Public Library, 140 Grand Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office.
