Bowie received NOV CV-2007-006 for transporting excess rock
from their Hubbard Creek Vent Shaft construction site to the Town of Paonia sewage
lagoons for permanent storage without Division approval. The approved plan was to
transport the excess rock to the Bowie No. 1 Mine.
Bowie requested that the excess rock be allowed to remain at the sewage lagoons. The
Division agreed provided certain issues were resolved. The issues were contained in TR-
51. One issue was to show that the excess rock was non toxic and non acid forming.
Bowie supplied a geochemical analysis of the excess rock in TR-51.
I am requesting that you review the geochemical analysis supplied in TR-51 and
determine if there is any indication of toxicity or acid forming potential. Attached is the
TR-51 page, along with the two analyses in the permit application that were performed
on overburden at the Bowie No. 2 Mine.
If I could get your comments back by this Friday, that would be great. Thanks for your
help!
Attachments
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
c:/word/bowie246 J memo 1
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
