The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116,
Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on December 27, 2007, an application to revise coal mining operations at
the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources,
LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
In Technical Revision No. 52 (TR-52), Bowie Resources LLC is proposing to drill thirteen methane degas wells in support of
future mining in the northern section of the permit area, around Sheep Corral Gulch and Dove Gulch. Along with the drill holes,
there will be about 22.5 acres of surface disturbance from the construction of associated drill pads and light use roads. Also
included in TR-52 is a generic drilling mud pit design for the incised pits that will hold the drilling fluids. Right of entry is
through Federal Coal Lease COC-61209. All of the disturbance proposed in TR-52 is on land that is managed by the USDA-
Forest Service. All of the proposed disturbance is within the approved permit area and will be bonded for reclamation.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit
area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, and 22, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. Portions of
Sections 33 and 34, Township 12 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. At the time of
publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at the Paonia Public Library,
140 Grand Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written comments,
(15) days of this letter. If no comments are received by then, we will proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns
with, or objections to, the applicant's proposal.
