Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced he is joining with several other state atto}
studying provisions of the health care bill the U.S. Senate is considering that discriminate in.favo
Medicaid program at the expense of the other states.
The legislation requires that the states provide Medicaid coverage to anyone nicking up to
the federal poverty level. This move likely will dramatically expand the number of Ivledicaid-'
throughout the country and increase the financial burden oil the states. In an effort to secure Nel
Nelson's support --- and the 60 votes necessary to end debate on the bill - Senate Majority Lei
inserted a provision in the bill that effectively requires that the federal government absorb the <
any new Nebraska Medicaid.
The Nebraska provision seems to give that state a permaneut exemption from paying th(
expenses every other state will be forced to shoulder under the legislation. The other states will l
Nebraska's bill.
"I Have significant concerns about the legality of the U.S. Senate krill," Slithers said. "This i
icant funds for efficiency improve-
moved to change the Green. Cents
"Changing our Green Cents,
program to an `opt out, is an
exciting change for San Miguel
Power,;' explained SMPA General
Manager, Kevin Ritter. "If just
70% of our members remain in
the, program, we'll raise° almost
$50,0013,for energy projects in our
round up their monthly bill to the
