Dudash, Joe
From: Dudash, Joe
Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 10:43 AM
To: 'jestover@bresnan.net'
Subject: RE: TR-48 Hubbard Creek Shaft
From what I understand, the Division needs a generic mud pit design that deals with the relevant sections of Rule
4.05.9 and that the design has to be formally put into the permit application.
The generic mud pit design now in Exhibit 8 of Volume III contains information relevant to Rule 4.05.9, including a
discussion of the 25 year event and the storage capacity of the mud pit. The designs and discussion were
formally put into the permit and relate to mud pits that range in size from 500 to 2000 square feet.
I didn't think you needed to change the existing generic mud pit design, just add another certified design into the
permit that takes into account Rule 4.05.9 and the larger size and volume of the Hubbard Creek mud pit. It seems
to me that a normal impoundment certification is not really a design since it is after the fact and it does not take
into account hydrology designs that one would find in Exhibit 8 of Volume III.
From: Jim Stover [mailto:jestover@bresnan.net]
Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 6:53 AM
To: Dudash, Joe
Subject: TR-48 Hubbard Creek Shaft
Joe:
Thanks for your quick response on the referenced revision. My thought on the large mud pit is to certify and
inspect it like any other impoundment and not change the generic mud pit design. It is a dugout pond which helps
with one of the rules. Does that sound okay to you?
Jim Stover
J. E. Stover & Associates, Inc.
P.O. Box 60340
Grand Junction, CO 81506
970-245-4101
8/17/2007
