OFFICE of ARCHAEOLOGY and HISTORIC PRESERVATION
R?

February 2, 2010
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
IY1
Re: Asphalt Constructors, Inc., Alamosa Pit (File No. lC-2009-094)
Dear Mr. Oswald:
EXVISIon of Reclamation,
AA nsng a safety
C0 y1 AieqhS
Thank you for your correspondence dated January 21, 2010 (received by our office on January 25,
2010) regarding the subject project.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory database indicates that several cultural resource
inventories have been conducted near the proposed project area and at least one historic property is
located therein. Site 5AL139 was last recorded in 1981 by the Bureau of Reclamation. It was
recommended that additional data were needed in order to assess its eligibility for the National Register
of Historic Places (NRHP). We recommend that the operator avoid this site or that additional
inventory be conducted to determine the effect of the proposed project on this resource. If site
avoidance is not possible, we recommend further consultation with our office in order to identify
options to avoid, minimize, or mitigate the adverse effect to the sites.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities the requirements under State law CRS
24-80 part 13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Shina
duVall, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866-4674 or shina.duvall(kchs.state.co.us.
Sincerely,
6&,-
4 /'/'
Edward C.
