Subsidence Handbook Volume III, Exhibit 15
Introduction
TRANSMISSION LINE AND TRANSMISSION TOWERS
The Western Area Power Administration Curecanti-Rifle transmission line and transmission
towers are located west of Terror Creek.
Worst-Case Damage
Tilt of the ground surface caused by subsidence could affect the transmission towers and
thus affect the integrity of this important transmission line. If the ground slope is such that
after tilting the center of gravity of the tilted structure falls outside of the base area, it will
topple but that is not likely.
Pre-Damage Monitoring
No pre-damage monitoring will be performed. The Applicant will assume the transmission
line towers were constructed with no tilt and the transmission line towers have virtually zero
tilt after settling.
Post-Damage Monitoring
Post-Damage monitoring would involve surveying the level of the transmission tower
footings to determine the tilt angle of the transmission line towers.
Mining Techniques
Mining near or under transmission line towers will be limited so no subsidence will occur.
Repair Procedures
Shims would be placed under the tower legs to eliminate the tilt of the transmission
towers.
TR-65
46
02/10
