This revision is
to add two on-lease exploration drill holes to the existing exploration plan approved by the CDRMS
per MR-352 and by the BLM last year.
As shown on the attached map, the two additional exploration drill holes will be located within
MCC's coal lease COC-67232. The exploration sites will occupy two previously approved Methane
Drainage Well (MDW) sites. Upon completion of the exploration, these exploration holes will be
converted into MDWs to serve MCC's future Iongwall mining in these locations.
Six of the 17 exploration drill holes proposed last year in MR-352 and the March 30th amendment of
the 2009 Dry Fork Area Exploration Plan were drilled in 2009. Five of those holes were converted
to MDWs. Footnotes have been added to the tables in the plan (attached) to indicate which holes
are new and which are those already drilled.
In addition to the two new exploration sites, MCC also plans to drill exploration hole 2009-D this
year within federal coal lease C-1362. As you may recall, hole 2009-D will be completed on the
former location of exploration hole SOM-66 drilled in 1974. In 2010, MCC also plans to drill
exploration holes 2009-E through 2009-1 on MCC's private property (and fee coal). These
exploration holes were approved as part of MR-352 last year.
Please contact me at (970) 929-2238 or by e-mail should you have questions regarding this
submittal.
Sincerely,
Kathlee G. Welt,
Environmental Engineer III
cc: Doug Nolte -MCC
Availability of Records File
Joanne Williams - Gunnison Co.
