'dhk
Ask • Stations 0+90 through 3+15 consisted of weathered granitic gneiss. The strike
` of the foliation varies due to minor folding and ranges from 275 to 290 degrees.
Foliation dips range from 15 to 40 degrees southwest. The average spacing of
the foliation was approximately 4 inches and the foliation displays slightly
Ak rough to rough apertures that are generally tight. The primary joint set strike
MW
Ah ranges from 205 to 230 degrees and generally dips from 50 to 80 degrees. The
MW secondary joint set strike ranges from 20 to 60 degrees and generally dips 75 to
W 80 degrees northwest. The spacing from joint set one averaged approximately 8
0 inches. The spacing on joint set 2 varied widely, but averaged approximately
• 30 inches. The apertures of joint set 1 were rough and the apertures of joint set
• 2 were slightly rough to smooth. Due to the highly fractured nature of the rock,
raveling is to be expected in this area. Raveling from this zone should be
retained on the bench below the highwall and is anticipated to cause only local
• operational delays.
0 • Stations 3+15 through 5+70 consisted of weathered granitic gneiss matching
the material described in the previous section overlying fresher material
described in the following section. The contact between the two materials was
observed to be apparently dipping to the south at 30 degrees.
Stations 5+70 to 8+10 consisted of fresh granitic gneiss. The strike of the
foliation varies due to minor folding and ranges from 240 to 260 degrees.
Foliation dips range from 30 to 40 degrees southeast. The average spacing of
the foliation was approximately 4 inches and the foliation displays slightly
rough to rough apertures that are generally tight. The primary joint set strike
ranges from 190 to 215 degrees and generally dips from 80 to 90 degrees to the
southeast. The secondary joint set strike ranges from 5 to 30 degrees and
generally dips 60 to 80 degrees northwest. The spacing of the joint sets varied
widely but averaged approximately 36 inches. The surfaces were slightly rough
to rough with closed apertures. Only localized raveling is expected in this area.
• Stations 8+10 to 13+60 consisted of granitic gneiss. The strike of the foliation
• varies due to minor folding and ranges from 220 to 245 degrees. Foliation dips
range from 20 to 30 degrees southeast. The average spacing of the foliation
was approximately 4 inches and the foliation displays slightly rough to rough
surfaces with apertures that are generally tight. Due to the highly fractured
• nature of the rock and inconsistent joint pattern in this area, only one prominent
• joint set was observable. This joint set strike ranges from 195 to 205 degrees
and generally dips from 70 to 80 degrees southeast out of the highwall. The
joint set average spacing was 6 inches and exhibited closed, rough faces. Small
• localized blocks were observed in the area. Additional small blocks may form
• in this area due to the orientation of the highwall and jointsets of the rock.
These blocks are anticipated to be limited in size, and should be retained on the
bench below the highwall.

A&
lab,
-6-
Morrison Quarry Annual Report 2009
P:\23514\133-23514-10003\Deliverables\Deliv-Ol-Annual Report\Annual_Report_2009_Geotech,l-25-IO.doc
February 2010
