III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection flown by Harry Ranney of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety(Division) on December 18, 2009. Oblique aerial
photographs were reviewed in the office by Kent Gorham on December 23, 2009. This mine
is in permanent cessation and reclamation of most areas is complete. Limited patchy snow
cover was evident, especially in shaded or north-facing areas.
Hydrologic Balance
Pond 4, shown below, was clearly visible in one photo and appeared dry.
i
x A ^S
4A
Processing Waste
The Refuse Disposal Pile (RDA)was also clearly visible in a number of the oblique aerial
photos taken. Reclamation of the pile occurred contemporaneously over about a 15 year
period as the pile was expanded during mining operations. As shown in the photo below, the
most recent reclamation occurred on the west end of the pile (right side of photo) about 5
years ago. The pile appeared normal with no signs of slumps, slides, or damage of any kind.
3
